What causes tinnitus that millions of folks suffer from? Tinnitus can be caused by various factors therefore it is difficult to pinpoint an exact cause. Ear damage is the most common cause of tinnitus. The reason could be an injury, infection or any other type of medical condition.

Tinnitus can also be caused by damage to the tiny hairs in your inner ear. When these hairs come in contact with sound waves, they will move. The movement causes cells in the ear to send electrical signals to your brain through the auditory nerve, and these are then interpreted by the brain as sounds.

These hairs get damaged and they send random electrical impulse to the brain causing tinnitus. Hearing loss can be just a sign of aging. Otosclerosis can cause changes in the ear bones. Massive amounts of build-up of earwax. Injuries to the neck and head Inner ear disorder is also called Meniere’s disease.

Acoustic neuroma that develops on the carnial nerve between brain and the inner ear is non-cancerous tumor. This condition may cause tinnitus along with balance and hearing problems. People are inclined to believe that stress and depression trigger tinnitus but many experts don’t concur.

While tinnitus is believed to contribute to a person’s level of stress and depression, this can become a vicious cycle as these conditions can actually worsen the symptoms of the tinnitus. Tinnitus can be caused by numerous types of medications, such those used in treatment of cancer, excessive aspirin, water pills, antibiotics,Quinine. Intermittent or continuous sounds can be heard.

The reasons for the pulsatile tinnitus is given below: • Increase of blood pressure due to hypertension, stress, caffeine etc. Ageing or cholesterol build-up causes Atherosclerosis. Tumors that present themselves on the neck or head. Ill-formed capillaries forming in between the arteries & the veins. • Any condition that causes the flow of blood to fluctuate. Tinnitus can be from persistent medical problems or overexposure to noisy environments. If you are exposed to any type of loud noise on a regular basis then this can damage your ears. If you plan to work around machinery or spend a lot of time listening to loud music, it is highly recommended that you consider wearing ear plugs. While you can have temporary problems due to short-term exposure, if the exposure takes place over a longer period it can cause more serious and permanent damage.

The risk of developing tinnitus can be reduced when you take care of your health. Eat healthy, stay away from loud noises, exercise on a regular basis and protect your hearing at all times. Wear helmet when riding motorcycle and also activities that could result in head or neck injury. By taking care of your ears and overall health you can reduce the risk of developing tinnitus.
