PS3 and Auction Sites

Have you looked in the sale papers for a PS3? I guess that enough people are still buying them that you don’t see them on sale often. It can be annoying if you only have a set amount of money to work with and it’s not quite enough to make the purchase.

I feel your pain! I have tried to justify the item in so many ways for so long. To start building a PS3 fund I thought I would begin by selling my old PS2 games. I’ve even thought about my old jeans in the closet, the ones with holes in them and seem all fashionable and seeing what I could sell them for on eBay. I dug through the basement in the junk room looking for old board games and stuffed animals to auction off online. I even once had a garage sale to sell all my old junk so I could fund the purchase of the PS3. It netted me $52. As an aside, garage sales are not the way to go! eBay is a much better way to go as you’ll net more profits.

I’ve been there before. There really is no comparison with other gaming consoles. A primary selling point for me is that it is Blu-Ray. I could not only play HD games on it but I could now watch all my movies in HD as well. That’s a hard-sell to the wife! Honestly, once we got HD and my wife watched it a few times we really only watch HD shows or movies. At the end of the day it turned out to be easy to persuade her to get the PS3 on every front except the price.

I’ve done some research and what I’ve found is that if you want the best gaming console on the market and you want to play Blu-Ray DVDs there simply isn’t a better value than the PS3. Even when it’s not on sale! The average Blu-Ray player will cost you $200-$250 but it doesn’t play games. While XBox does offer HD it is not the preferred format. If at all possible I wanted to get the PS3 at a discount.

I searched on eBay and some other traditional auction sites and found that there really aren’t any PS3 Sale Prices out there. You have to spend more than you normally would and get a “bundle” to really get the value. When I’m trying to spend as little money as possible this just doesn’t work for me.

I had to get creative with my thinking and break away from the herd. I began looking into unique bid auction sites. You’ll find a few out there for sure but one stands above the rest, www.auctions4acause.com. They have more everyday items available for auction, including the PS3, than any of the other sites. You’ll find cars, boats and vacations on the other sites. You can pretty it up all you want but I just want the PS3!

After I found that site I know it was exactly what I needed. They had 2 items going for them in that they had the item I wanted at a potentially very inexpensive price. I quickly setup an account on the site. I placed 3 bids and hoped that they were unique and the lowest. I was only slightly discouraged when I didn’t win the first time. I had to wait until the next one came up for bid. I bid 3 or 4 more times, said my prayers and waited. Bingo! The second time around I won. About 6 days later I was unpacking the new PS3. $59 was all I had spent.64. Not bad, huh?

It can take a few minutes of reading to truly grasp the concept of the lowest unique bid auction style. Once you get a handle on the concept you may not want to stop. Since that time that I won the PS3 I’ve bid on and won 3 other items including an iPod Nano (they have the best iPod Prices) and $400 gas card. In total I’ve spent about $350 there and won over $1,200 worth of stuff.

So don’t go searching at Best Buy or Circuit City or Walmart for the best prices on the things you want. Create an account at Auctions4aCause and see what kind of deal you can get.
