The more we learn about how our bodies work, the more we discover treatment alternatives for hair loss. Having a lower cost is but one of many benefits of these treatments. Most of these alternative treatments target hair loss prevention as well as encouraging new hair growth.
Unless your hair loss is the result of some medical problem, the most likely culprit is DHT, or dihydrotestosterone. DHT is the male sex hormone testosterone that has been transformed by the 5-alpha reductase enzyme. DHT then blocks the blood supply to your hair follicles, killing them.
For anyone that wanted to stop or reverse this process, expensive medical treatments have long been their only option. But, even these treatments rarely provided the desired results. It seems that the world is never short of those looking to profit from the pain of others.
When the use of hair transplants became an option, positive results became more certain. Many people, however, found that the high price of these transplants put them out of reach. Time, high cost, and general discomfort involved in transplants prompted the search for treatment alternatives.
Minoxidil is the only alternative treatment available today that is FDA approved. As you may expect, many of the “hucksters” are still out there, so beware of any alternative hair loss treatments that haven’t been independently tested. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t consider other options, only that you should be careful what you choose to buy.
