Cats have a natural tendency to desire to go to the bathroom in the sand or soil where cats might rake with their paws. Also little kitties begin to learn from their mother, so by the time your kitty is prepared to be brought to your home employing a litter box will likely feel comfortable to her. She will probably require a small bit of direction though.
Kitties are private with their litter box habits so be sure you set the litter box in a quiet place that the kitten can easily enter. When you take her home take her over to the litter box and place her in it. She will probably jump out yet that is ok. You want to get her familiar with it. It’s good to put her in the litter box a few times a day until you notice she is using it regularly. If you notice her using it step back and let her have her privacy.
Kitties usually start using the litter box pretty quickly, but if for some reason your kitten isn’t utilizing it do not admonish her. This might befuddle her or cause stress which can lead to additional troubles. Rather than scold it is best to clean the mess well and start putting her in the litter box more oftentimes until she starts getting the flow of it.
If she continues to mess beyond the litter box watch to see if she is either straining to go to the bathroom or is suffering from diarrhea. These could be signs of a medical issue which may be causing the litter box issues. In this case you should consult your vet.
You will have much better luck litter training your precious little kitten if you maintain the litter box in a quiet room where the kitten feels safe. Keep the litter box away from high traffic regions and aside from obnoxious appliances. The litter box also needs to be handy, so if you have multiple floors in your home you must maintain a litter box on each floor. And maintain all litter boxes aside from the kitty’s eating area. Not unlike us cats do not enjoy going to the bathroom where they enjoy meals.
I hope my article helps you get a good start with your new furry little friend. But if anything goes wrong, you should look for additional information on how to remove cat urine smell. It may be an unpleasant subject, but understanding how to deal with cat spraying may be essential to you and your beloved kitten’s happiness.
You should keep 1 litter box for each kitty plus 1 extra. I know this can be problematic in tiny homes or apartments so at least have 1 litter box per feline.
