Chlorella protein is a genus of single celled green algae, belonging to the phylum Chlorophyta. It is spherical in shape, about 2 to 10 μm in diameter, and is without flagella. Chlorella contains the green photosynthetic pigments chlorophyll -a and -b in its chloroplast. Through photosynthesis it multiplies rapidly requiring only carbon dioxide, water, sunlight, and a small amount of minerals to reproduce.
The name Chlorella caps is taken from the Greek word chloros meaning green and the Latin diminutive suffix ella meaning “small”. German biochemist and cell physiologist Otto Heinrich Warburg, awarded with the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his research on cell respiration in 1931, also studied photosynthesis in Chlorella. In 1961 Melvin Calvin of the University of California received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his research on the pathways of carbon dioxide assimilation in plants using Chlorella. In recent years, researchers have made less use of Chlorella as an experimental organism because it lacks a sexual cycle and, therefore, the research advantages of genetics are unavailable.
It si true that amazing things truly do come in small packages. One of your most powerful weapons against cancer is chlorella a unicellular, green algae. This tiny algae packs a powerful punch. In Prescription for Dietary Wellness, Phyllis A. Balch explains, “Chlorella contains the highest chlorophyll level per ounce of any plant, as well as protein (nearly 58 percent), carbohydrates, all of the B vitamins, vitamins C and E, amino acids (including all nine essential ones), enzymes and rare trace minerals.” Due to its dense and nutrient rich nature, chlorella offers your body a two fold attack against cancer. You can access these benefits by taking only one or two teaspoons of Chlorella once or twice daily, according to Michael Tierra’s Treating Cancer with Herbs.
To grasp chlorella’s benefits in fighting cancer, you must first understand cancer’s connection to immune system dysfunction. Cancer cells develop in all of our bodies, even in those of us who have never “had cancer.” When these cancer cells develop, our immune systems naturally and efficiently destroy them before cancer symptoms appear. On the other hand, when cancer symptoms do appear, these symptoms are an indication of the immune system’s sudden inability to effectively fight cancer cells that had been appearing all along. In this sense, cancer is an immune system malfunction more than anything else. This is why it is so important to eat healthy and take vitamin supplement with herbs to keep your self in tip top shape.
Chlorella is promoted for a wide range of herbal remedies. Proponents claim it kills several types of cancer, fights bacterial and viral infections, enhances the immune system, increases the growth of “friendly” germs in the digestive tract, lowers blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and promotes healing of intestinal ulcers, diverticulosis, and Crohn’s disease. It is said to “cleanse” the blood, digestive system, and the liver.
Chlorella is available in capsule, tablet, and bulk powder forms at a health food store. Look for name brands like Solaray and Source Naturals to ensure quality and purity of the product you purchase.
